There is no connection between smart bombs gone wrong and the makers of batteries that guide them. That`s the conclusion of an Armed Forces report concerning batteries made at the Eagle Picher plant in Joplin. Former employees of Eagle Picher filed a whistle blower lawsuit alleging problems with batteries that power the guidance system of several weapons systems. But a recent inspection of the plant by members of the Armed Forces, the Department of Defense, and Department of Energy found no examples of excessive failure rates or problems with the making of thermal batteries.
