Updated: January 7, 2009
What would your world be like if you suddenly lost your hearing? That is one of the topics being discussed Thursday at Deaf Awareness Day being held on the campus of Ozark Christian College in Joplin. A service was held in the OCC Chapel to kick off the event. Guest speakers were on hand to tell their personal experiences of being deaf. Matthew Gwynn &Mary Gardner - Ozark Christian College "We`re promoting the awareness about the deaf community within this area. And often time they are overlooked people. The attention here is to raise awareness about how to communicate in several different ways. About that kind of people deaf people are and how to communicate with them." A workshop will be held in the OCC dining hall tonight at 7:00pm. The goal of the workshop is to familiarize people with the technology being used by the deaf community.
