TRAFFIC TIE-UP ON I-44

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
An accident closes several lanes of a local Interstate highway. The accident happened just before noon today on Interstate-44 three miles east of Joplin. Highway patrol officials say a tractor trailer veered off the highway and overturned. The trailer was filled with 25-thousand pounds of frozen produce. One of the gas tanks on the truck ruptured, prompting concern for local fire units. The driver of the truck suffered only minor injuries, but traffic along the eastbound lane was backed up for several miles. Emergency personnel rerouted traffic during the cleanup Friday.
