Mr. Spiva is well known for his love of Joplin and his generosity to the community. He passed away in in 1967, but not before he dedictated this park to the city. The statue depicts Mr. Spiva sitting on a bench looking to his right at another statue honoring the Joplin miners. "It shows him as a common man. he`s got his overalls and looking up at the statue. i can see him here,"said Christy Cragin, Spiva`s Granddaughter. The statue is still being constructed, but should be in place within the next few days.
