Collapsed Bridge Affects the 4 States

Updated: January 7, 2009
The I-40 bridge collapse in Oklahoma is not only affecting traffic being detoured around the bridge, but four state merchants and consumers are also be affected by the tragedy. Many commercial trucking companies across the United States including several local companies are having to make adjustments. The companies are re-routing their trucks around the collapsed bridge, adding miles to their routes. The extra miles are causing companies, such as Sitton Motor Lines to re-evaluate the rates they charge other companies to carry their freight. Officials say that in turn, will increase prices of the products being shipped. "Any time there`s more transportation costs, there`s more cost to the consumer and to the person who buys the product in the store so transportation plays a pretty big role depending on the product and the ultimate cost of the goods and services,"said Herb Schmidt,CFI President. Schmidt says so far rates at CFI have not been increased. Reported By: Jennifer Haile
