Kids may be out of class for the summer, but the work continues. Renovations at one 4 state school are moving along at a much faster pace now that the kids are out of the classrooms. Now that school is out for the summer, renovations at joplin high school are now full speed ahead. Construction foreman, Rex Diggs said, "Progress is going pretty good, we`ve had some setbacks on rain, but since schools let out, we`re turning and burning." There have been several goals set for this summer. Goals school officials say must be completed by next fall. Deputy Superintendent, Dr. James Rhea said, "One of the most critical areas we are looking at and needing to get done before school starts is our cafeteria and kitchen." Workers are also hoping to finish the music and home ec. rooms before the start of school. The construction has been underway since last fall and is expected to be completed in spring of 2003. This is the first major renovation since the school first opened in 1958. The rennovations were made possible by a 9 point 7 million dollar bond renewal for the high school that was passed in 2000.
