Ottawa County Ambulance Debate

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The debate contines concerning ambulance service of one four-state county. The commissioners of Ottawa County are in a disagreement with the city of Miami on how to fund and manage an ambulance service currently on the Ottawa county ballot. On Tuesday voters will decide whether to approve the creation of an ambulance service district. County officials want the service to be funded through an increase in county property tax. But city officials want to create a public trust authority which would issue bonds to pay for the ambulance service. Both sides of the debate agree,Ottawa county residents are in great need of a county wide ambulance service. "Regardless of how this election turns out tomorrow, whether the citizens say yes or now, we will still continue to have the ambulance service we have now. There will be an an ambulance service in this county,"said James Leake, Ottawa County Commissioner. The voters will have the ultimate say at the polls on Tuesday. We`ll have the results of the issue tomorrow night on your Hometown News at ten. Reported By: Brad Douglas
