breaking news
Some Four-State residents were without power this morning after a tractor trailer rig overturned on county road 170 just west of Carthage. The trailer carrying sulfuric acid had just left the Dyno Nobel explosives plant in Carthage, when it overturned. Hazmat teams were called to the scene to secure the area. Officials working the accident say there were no leaks involved. Electric lines were knocked down when the trailer overturned, but Empire District Electric crews have restored power to area businesses and homes. Jasper county deputy sheriff Aaron Richardson says emergency crews go through a lot of training in order to be prepared for possible hazardous material spills much like the one today ",,,instant command training, hazardous material training and conduct drills for eventuality that something serious were to happen..." Richardson says today`s teamwork between all emergency crews made the operation run very smoothly.
