Twenty One year old Thomas Legrand of Columbus, Kansas pleaded guilty to intentional 2nd degree murder as a part of a plea agreement.
Legrand was facing charges of first degree murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary of 74-year old Margaret Barrett of Columbus, Kansas. Today in a Cherokee County courtroom, Legrand pleaded guilty to intentional 2nd degree murder.
As a part of a plea agreement, all other charges against Legrand will be dropped.
Cherokee County Prosecuting Attorney Joanna Derfelt says discussions reguarding a plea agreement came about on Wednesday during a motion to supress hearing.
Legrand faces a minimum of 18 years in prison.
His sentencing is set for July 10th. Twenty-One year old James Eddie Vanhouten was also facing murder charges in the death of Barrett.
Vanhouten pleaded guilty to premeditated murder earlier this month also as a part of an agreement with the county.
Vanhoutens sentencing will be June 27th.
