Twenty One year old Thomas Legrand of Columbus, Kansas pleaded guilty to intentional 2nd degree murder as a part of a plea agreement. Legrand was facing charges of first degree murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary of 74-year old Margaret Barrett of Columbus, Kansas. Today in a Cherokee County courtroom, Legrand pleaded guilty to intentional 2nd degree murder. As a part of a plea agreement, all other charges against Legrand will be dropped. Cherokee County Prosecuting Attorney Joanna Derfelt says discussions reguarding a plea agreement came about on Wednesday during a motion to supress hearing. Legrand faces a minimum of 18 years in prison. His sentencing is set for July 10th. Twenty-One year old James Eddie Vanhouten was also facing murder charges in the death of Barrett. Vanhouten pleaded guilty to premeditated murder earlier this month also as a part of an agreement with the county. Vanhoutens sentencing will be June 27th. Reported By: Jennifer Haile
