I-44 Fatality

A one car accident takes the life of a four-state resident just after midnight last night. The accident happened when 53-year old, Charles Franklin of Carthage lost control of his Chevy Silverado while attempting to exit off Highway-71 onto Interstate-44. The vehicle slid across both eastbound lanes of I-44, before coming to a stop in the median upside down. Franklin was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident, but was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. The Joplin Police Department is reconstructing the accident to investigate the cause.
