Pets and the Fourth of July

This Fourth of July, not only should parents keep an eye on thier children, but also their pets. The loud bangs and whistles of fireworks can frighten your pet and even cause an anxiety attack. Veterinarian Melanie Grundy says dogs can get very aggitated during this holiday week because of all the loud popping sounds, which could cause your pet some unnessesary harm. Grundy recommends keeping your pet indoors while shooting off fireworks. You should also make sure all used fireworks are picked up so your pet won`t chew or eat leftover gun powder.
Your pet might have some of the following symptoms if it suffers an anxiety attack: Your pet may pant excessively, bark, seem restless by not lying down and will seem very nervous. Grundy also says there are sedatives that can be prescribed for your pet to take the edge off of the the holiday stress.
