Updated: January 7, 2009
School officials in one four state community continue to work toward mandatory drug testing for students. Members of the Carthage R-9 school board met with their attorney and drug testing specialists to discuss how Carthage High School and Junior High School students would be tested for drugs. Superintendent Gary Reed says school officials want to take a more agressive approach to combat drug abuse. Reed says the board is still discussing who would be tested if school drug testing is implimented. Reed said, "Recent U.S. Supreme court case opens that door to include more than just athletes and cheerleaders, we`re still trying to determine realistically what we can and what groups we still can`t include." The Carthage School Board will discuss the issue again at their next meeting on July 15th. Reported By: Jennifer Haile
