New Trucking Standards

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
To avoid possible layoffs, the trucking industry is asking for more time to meet a government mandate. The United States Government is mandating that all tractor trailers purchased after October first of this year must comply with new E.P.A. standards regulating diesel engines. The new engine has yet to be tested. This has local trucking officials leary about buying any of the new engines which could be faulty. "Because we know new engines are unreliable we`re taking 763 new engines by october first and after that we`re not planning on buying any new trucks or engines until we`ve had a chance to test them,"said Kris Ikejiri of Contract Freighters, Inc. By discontinuing truck and engine orders after October, trucking officials are also worried about possible layoffs at companies who manufactor tractor trailers and truck engines.
