Leaving Early?

Joplin city leaders try to delay the withdrawal of an air carrier. The company that operates Northwest Airlink has announced plans to stop service to the Joplin Airport. But instead of terminating service at the end of 90 days, the customary time frame, City Attorney Brian Head says the company wants to end flights by early September. Within the next 24 hours, Head says the city will formally protest to the federal government. "We will be filing documents with the FAA and Department of Transporation to prevent that pull out prior to the end of the full 90 days which would be October the 8th," said Head. Airport Manager Steve Stockam says a total of seven employees will be affected by the withdrawal. Stockam says he is already looking for new carriers to try to take Northwest`s place.
