Voters will be able to vote on an issue defeated earlier this year, again in November.
Ottawa County officials are hoping to pass an emergency services tax to help fund a county wide ambulance service and support local fire departments. The tax, which was defeated in June, would be an assessment on property tax. County Commissioner James Leake says a disagreement between county commissioners and Miami city officials on which route the proposed ambulance service would take caused the issue to be defeated.
Leake said, "Their legal staff advised them one route, our legal staff advised us a different route, so it caused some confusion between county commissioners and city council, but their in an agreement that all we want now is the attorney general`s opinion and once we get opinion will work together all city councils and mayors in this county." The Oklahoma attorney general will decide which route is best for the ambulance service before the issue is on the ballot in November.
