Meningitis Takes Life of Grove Girl

A four state girl dies after contracting bacterial menangitis. Eleven year old Jessica Lewandowski of Afton, Oklahoma died sunday at the Lucile Salter Packard Childrens hospital in Palo Alto, California. Lewandowski became ill while vacationing with her family. The previous week she had attended a Girl Scout function at Camp Mintahama in Joplin. After Lewandowski was diagnosed with meningitis, local officials closed the camp early as a precaution to ensure the safety of campers and volunteers. Along with the
Newton County Health department.. the ozark area girl scout`s council notified families of girls who may have been in contact with Lewandowski.
