Get Your Motor Running

Updated: January 7, 2009
Local police have gone hog wild with some new crime fighting wheels. The Joplin Police Department and the Jasper County Sheriff`s Department have now been equipped with three new Harley Davidson motorcycles. Officers say the motorcycles will enable officers to save money on both fuel and maintenance on their patrol car. Officers say the public has been very receptive to the changes. "I think the funniest thing a little old lady in her upper 70s the other day stayed outside of her car. I said go ahead ma`am get in your car. She said no i want to stand outside. I want to hear it start up,"said Jerry Neil of the Jasper Co. Sheriffs Department. The bikes are being leased by a Harley dealer in Ames, Iowa for one dollar a year. They will be upgrades for 2003 models next March. Reported By: Brad Douglas
