Freedom is worth fighting for. a local man knows the price for our freedom... he lost his son who died while fighting for our rights. Army Sergeant Phil Svitak died earlier this year while serving in Afghanistan. His father, Richard is proud and rightfully so... As you may remember on March fourth America lost seven national heroes in Afghanistan..one of these was our local hero 31-year old Philip Svitak. The army sergeant gave his life fighting for our freedom in Afghanistan. Philip was part of a special forces unit called the nightstalkers... Philips Dad Richard of Diamond, Missouri...says Phil was an amazing person, who loved his life in the military. Richard says Phil is and always has been his very own hero. He says he`s proud of his son and the sacrifices he made to keep us free from terrorism. Richard Svitak says, ""He was a great person, devoted family man, and devoted to his country, he was a great kid, he`ll always be my kid." Richard says before Phil left for assignment in Afghanistan, he told his family, "if anything happens to me, i`m proud to die for my country." Richard says on september 11th we all need to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Tune in September 11TH on your hometown news at six..KSN`s Courtney Cullor will have a complete report from Phil`s father.
