Dangerous I-44 Bridge

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Two recent accidents on I-44 are causing Missouri Department of Transportation representatives to examine the safety of the Shoal Creek bridge. A Missouri woman survived a fall in her Jeep after it plunged into the creek last Saturday. Less than one week later, another vehicle went off the bridge, this time ending in a fatality. MODOT workers are now looking into ways to make the bridge safer in case of an accident. While there are several options, officials say one resolution is to install heavy cables that connect to both sides of the bridge. Kent Boyd from MODOT says, "It`s only a theory, if car or truck is going fast enough, it will still go between the bridges and fall into the river." Authorities will continue to investigate the matter for other possible safety options. Reported By: Sheradee Scott
