Newton and Jasper County Commissioners gathered today to honor Bill Jackson. After nine years of service to the George Washington Carver monument, Jackson is retiring from his position as Park Superintendent. Jackson has worked in parks for a total of 33 years. Today, the long-time Superintendent was given a Certificate of Appreciation for his dedication to the monument, and commissioners were not at a loss for words when speaking about the superintendent. Newton County Commissioner, Jerry Carter says, "He`s been active in church in his community in the development of this park & in tourism in Newton County, just an all around good." After receiving his certificate, Jackson gave leaders the presentation he`s been delivering to park visitors for years, and commissioners say it`s that unique delivery style they will miss. This park has escalated in popularity as well as people visiting our area, because heis such a wonderful person, he adds so much personality to it, it`s going to be a real miss for us,not having him here," says Jasper County Commissioner, Anna Ruth Crampton. The former superintendent will be enjoying some time off, but says he does plan to stay in the area. Reported By: Sheradee Scott
