A four-state community is in a state of shock after a tragic loss. Friends and family are grieving tonight from the loss of 15-year old Ashtin Langston from Carl Junction. Langston died on Monday at Children`s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. The cause of her death has been ruled as viral encephalitis. Authorities are questioning if the death could be a result of the west nile virus. Authorities say viral encephalitis can be caused by the west nile virus which is a swelling of the brain. Counselors at the Carl Junction High School are busy talking to the students to help them cope with the shocking loss. "Students that have come to school we`ve had a good number that have been in the office trying to cope.Whether being a good friend, if their being in the classroom that she no longer in habits her seat, that type of thing. We`ll probably be pretty busy for a few days,"said Sue Utter, Guidance Counselor at C.J. High School. Medicial examiners will not know the exact cause of death until later in the week.
