NEO Students Plead

A former area student charged in connection with a severe beating says he is guilty of the crime. Twenty-One year old Michael Evans is one of four former students at NEO A&M Junior College in Miami, Oklahoma charged with the crime. 22-year old Nathanial Gonzales, 26-year old Brian Collier and 20-year old Deborah Sikes are also charged. Today, Evans pleaded guilty to the January 2001 beating of fellow NEO student 20-year old Tyler Warden. Warden was hospitalized in a coma but has since recovered some of his physical abilities. Evans was sentenced for "conspiracy to commit assault and battery with the intent to kill" and "conspiracy to commit maiming." Evans has been sentenced to two six-year sentences which will run concurrently. Five years of both sentenced were spended. The other three suspects are expected to enter guilty pleas sometime this month. Gonzalez will receive a five-year sentence and Sikes and Collier will be sentenced to probation.
