A White Christmas

This is one of the busiest travel seasons of the year and today`s snow storm isn`t making travel any easier. Officials at MODOT say they`ve been working on the roads before the snow started falling. MODOT is loading up plows with salt and sending them out into the storm and onto state roads. They`ll begin by clearing the heavier traveled state roads such as I-44 and highway 71. Unfortunately the less traveled roads get cleared last and officials say while that tends to be a problem they`ll be working non-stop to clear the roads. "They`re talking about blowing snow and drifting snow and that`s a little harder to keep on top of, but we have the same policy for every storm. We start treating the roads before it even starts and then we`ll stay on top of it until the roads are cleared,"said Wendy Brunner-Lewis, MODOT. Roads are very slick right now and the Joplin Police Department is asking you not to drive tonight unless you ablsolutely have to. The Joplin Police Department is working with emergency road conditions and that means they will only report to injury accidents. One gentleman called the station and said he`d been sitting at I-44 and Highway 71 for about two hours because the traffic was backed up so far. Reported By: Jennifer Grannan
