2003 Route 66 Music Festival Canceled

Updated: January 7, 2009
A four state music festival will not return to the Joplin area for a third year. The Route 66 Music Festival has been held for the past two years near Joplin. But this year, management with the Route 66 Music Festival say the concert will not return. Sources say because of substantial monetary loss in 2002,the owners of the Route 66 Music Festival announced today there will be no concert this year. Controversy has surrounded the festival in years past. Two years ago long lines prevented some patrons from getting into the festival even though they had purchased tickets. Also, some employees of the festival the first year were never paid. This past year controversy arose over the payment of law enforcement personnel and vendors. Festival owners have left open the possibility that the festival will return to Joplin in 2004. Reported By:Robin Rogers
