A historical bridge in the Four States may be saved from demolition. The old Missouri Highway 86 bridge at Redings Mill could stay if various conditions are met by those wanting to keep it. The Newton County Commission has agreed to a letter of intent. It states the conditions, which have to be met by the various entities interested in seeing the bridge preserved as a footpath. First, they have to commit to repairing it. Second, the highway department will need to place $60,000, the state has budgeted for removal, into an escrow account. That money will be used to maintain it. The letter will now go on to the Missouri Department of Transportation. A new bridge is currently under construction, just to the west of old Missouri 86. It is scheduled to open later this year.
