Local colleges are getting new software to help track international students. The campuses of Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State are getting an international upgrade. A new software is allowing administrators to montior and track its foreign students better.
"I think once all the bugs are ironed out that it`s gonna improve the efficiency of being able to issue the documents that the international students require and will need,"said Derek Skaggs, MSSC Director of Enrollment Services. The new software is called Sevis, and it goes into effect January 31. But some schools say the system is difficult to use and understand.
And even though the INS has set up forums to help colleges learn the software. Pitt state officials say the new software is hurting their current system.
Administrators at missouri southern say they can see improvement with the new technology. One of the things we have seen that things have speeded up a bit, you don`t have to deal with the mail and those kinds of things, some of the processes have speeded up somewhat.
And over Four thousand colleges should now set to use the new software.
The new software is designed to help foreign students stay in compliance with the INS.
