A suspect involved in Friday`s shootout with police may have been already alluding authorities. Officials with the Joplin Police Department say 37-year old Paul Cox fired six rounds from his rugar black hawk pistol at officers. They`re shots officials say Cox may have fired because he was wanted on six felony charges as well as a parole violation. Authorites say Sergeant David Newel, Patrolman Gary McKenney and Officer Justin Keller were involved in the shootout. The three officers fire 37 shots at Cox until he was finally taken down. Police say eight shots actually hit cox. Autopsy results reveal Cox died from a rifle round in the chest. Investigators from the Joplin Police Department say the Officers took appropriate actions. "I`m very proud of our police officers, he fired at them and he fired back, they did what they needed to do to halt the threat," said Lt. Delmar Haase, Joplin Police Department. The three officers involved in the shootout attended a critical incident debriefing today. They will remain on paid administrative leave until the investigation is complete. Police now say the gun used by the victim had been reported stolen Thursday in Carthage. Officials are still awaiting the results of Paul Cox`s toxicology report. Those results are expected in the next two to three weeks. Reported By:Courtney Cullor
