Rocky Comfort School Bond

Updated: January 7, 2009
The third time is a charm for one four state school district. A bond issue for the McDonald County school district passed at the polls yesterday. The bond, a twenty-five cent tax increase on personal property, will generate 3-point-5 million dollars to build a new Rocky Comfort Elementary School. School leaders say the current Rocky Comfort building is over one-hundred years old and had too many problems to fix. The bond issue gained many supporters since it first went on the ballot two elections ago. "Last time we were, oh maybe 20 votes short and the community really rallied behind us. We had committees, our staff seemed to motivate them even harder to get those extra few votes. It was really nice to see that happen last night and take place,"said Randy Smith, McDonald County Superintendent. Construction on the school will begin as soon as a contractor is selected.
