Those falling on hard financial times may soon have somewhere to turn for a helping hand in Newton county.
The Newton County Commission met today to revise a near 20-thousand dollar emergency shelter grant application.
Presiding Commissioner Jerry Carter says there are well over 200 confirmed homeless people in Newton county who could benifit from the proposed shelter.
"As it`s name suggests, it is a compassionate ministry to provide shelter, food, service, help and assistance to those in need," said Carter.
Carter says if the Missouri Department of Social Services approves the application, the shelter should be open to the public in July of this year.
The Commission will meet again April 28th to finalize the plan to be submitted by May 1st.
