Lost $$$

Updated: January 7, 2009
Two area men make a fortunate find. Two Joplin men found several thousand dollars in a trash bag laying in front the commercial metals company in Joplin, where they work. But instead of keeping the money for themselves, the two men turned it over to the Joplin police. But that doesn`t mean the men may never see the money again. According to legal statute the owner of the money has 40 days to claim it from police. If no one comes forward, the two men have to place an ad in a state newspaper describing what they found. If after a year, no one comes forward the men can keep the cash. "I presume the law wants to be careful allowing people to have such a windfall without a certain passage of time for folks to step forward and claim the money,"said Deryl Edwards,Attorney. If you think you lost the money, you may call the Joplin Police Department at (417)623-3131. Reported By:Brad DOuglas
