School leaders are on the edge of their seat as Missouri State legislators battle over school budget cuts.
Joplin R-8 Superintendent Dr. Jim Simpson says there will be cut backs no matter what.
However, school districts across the state will have to wait until a special session is over to see how deep the cuts will dig.
Officials say any amount of a cut back will hurt programs, but leaders are working hard to overcome the tough issue.
"Now we have the general assembly saying this is our budget and we`re not going to change it. We have the government saying we`re not going to accept it. Smack dab in the middle are public schools," says Dr. Simpson.
All districts have until June 30 to finalize their school budgets for next year.
