The threat of SARS hits closer to home with ten cases of the disease being reporting in the four-states.
Of those ten cases three are residents of Jasper County, Missouri who have what medical officials call suspect cases. That means they do have symptoms that the virus can cause and were exposed to an individual from the toronto area which is considered an elevated risk area at this time.
"They have met the conditions of SARS in that they have a fever, they have respiratory illness and they have had contact with an individual from an area known to have a high incidence of sars,"said Tony Moehr, Jasper County Health Department. The three individuals have voluntarily isolated themselves in private homes until lab results either confirm or reject that the SARS virus is in fact present.
