Joplin Homeowner Flooded

Updated: January 7, 2009
One four state man is without a home after heavy rains and a blocked storm drain flood his home. What was once a front yard, is now a pond. John Bard of Joplin awoke this morning to find water from the heavy rains flooding through his house. The problem started two weeks ago after an old storm drain was filled with gravel in order to fix a collapsed train track. "An old drain they put gravel in not knowing what it was and filled it up to keep doing what they`re doing and it builds up,"said Bard. Representatives of the city of Joplin and the Missouri Northern Arkansas railroad company say they are working together to solve the problem. Officials say it could be a few days before the drain can be fixed. However, Bard says his home is beyond repair and is a total loss. Reported By: Jennifer Haile
