A national toymaker is honoring a southeast Kansas girl for her volunteerism. It`s not something you see everyday, a girl in the G.I. Joe aisle at Toys R Us. But this is no ordianary girl she`s been named a real american hero, by Hasboro who makes G.I. Joes. "I just like to do so many things it makes me feel good,"said Sophia Evans, All American Hero. Sophia Evans has been been volunteering most of her life,oh by the way, she`s only 10 and it`s sometimes hard to keep track of everything she`s involved in. But just ask her mom. "She`s involved in evvvverything. 4H, girl scouts, church, sports, she`s a fourth year cheerleader. She plays chess, nursing home, animal hosptials. Raises money for march of dimes for heroes on patrol and children`s miricle network, everything,"said Patricia Evans,Sophia`s Mom. Sophia is the Kansas winner of the G.I. Joe contest, and she will be eligable for a national competition. In which she could win a trip to Washington DC and 2,500 dollars which would go to her favorite charity. "I started her at an early age. My husband and I both work for the salvation army. We had instilled in us during our training a sense of community service and volunteerism,"said Patricia. Sophia says she has only just begun with her volunteerism. "I think it`s a good start. It`ll look good on your college resume. Help you get into colleges and be successful. But other times you`ll feel good about yourself and helping the community,"said Sophia. Sophisa has also been named the Miss pre-teen Kansas volunteer of 2003. She is the youngest delegate to ever win the award. Reported By: Brad Douglas
