A four state county Coroner remains in critical condition following a car accident. Jasper County Coroner J.D. Love is next in line to take Jasper County Sheriff Bill Pierce`s position if no one is selected in the next week. But as we first told you last night, Love was involved in a major car accident in Kansas. Close family members say J.D. Love`s condition is critical at this point after an accident late yesterday afternoon. The accident happened along interstate 70 in Junction City, Kansas, near Manhattan. The Kansas State Highway Patrol is confirming one fatality, and several other injured who were riding in the same car as Love. Love sustained a broken arm, 11 broken ribs, and major internal injuries. This, after almost a week long ordeal in Jasper County when Sheriff Bill Pierce announced his retirement. J.D. Love is the next in line for sheriff. But because Sheriff Pierce did not give County Commissioners 24 hours notice, they will accept that retirement next week. Until then, Pierce is still the Sheriff of Jasper County. County Clerk Ron Mosbaugh says Love was disappointed to learn that he wouldn`t be immediately appointed to interim Sheriff. "I said we`ll just have to wait and see what happens here. I think he was disappointed when he left here, but you know all this happened all of a sudden and we jut wasn`t ready for all this,"Ron Mosbaugh, Jasper County Clerk. Again, Love is reportedly at a Topeka hospital under guarded critical condition. Reported By:Ryan Loyd
