Updated: January 7, 2009
A lieutenant with the Columbus Police Department is free on bond tonight after being arrested over the weekend on suspicison of driving under the influence..and leaving the scene of an injury accident in Galena. According to Columbus Police Chief Larry Delmont, Lieutenant Zappa has been on military leave since January of this year and has not yet been formally discharged and placed back on the city of Columbus payroll. Zappa was expected to resume his duties as a lieutenant at the Columbus P.D. by the end of July or beginning of August. Delmont would not comment on how the incident will affect Zappa`s future in the department. However, he says such an incident would affect any officer`s credibility Zappa was released from the Cherokee County jail Sunday on 3-thousand dollars bond. The investigation has been turned over to the Kansas highway patrol and formal charges are pending. Chief Delmont also tells KSN such an incident would normally call for an emergency city personnel meeting, but a meeting was already scheduled for tomorrow night at 7. Delmont says Zappa`s misconduct will most likely be addressed then. Reported By: Janae Menz
