A bomb found in a four state park this morning was quickly determined to be a dud. At about 7 am Joplin police responded to a call that reported a device looking like a pipe bomb was found in Parr Hill Park. Officers who responded say the alleged bomb looked questionable. After contacting the Missouri Highway Patrol they sent digital pictures of the device to Jefferson City, saving local tax payer`s money.
"It saved anywhere from eight to ten man hours of two individuals driving down from Jefferson City coming to this location, evaluating it and making the determination the same as we did with a five minute phone call,"said Captain John Wales, Joplin Police Department. From the pictures the Missouri Highway Patrol was able to determine what was found in the park was not a pipe bomb. Officers say the device was made from foam tube, some steele wool and tape.
