New Prostate Surgery

Updated: January 7, 2009
A new treatment to battle prostate cancer is now available at St. John`s Regional Medical Center. A new advanced surgery called Cryotherapy actually freezes the cancer cells. The ice freezes at a very low temperature. Slender probes are inserted through a small incision into the prostate gland. The entire procedure lasts one to two hours. "It`s forming popcycles on popcycles sticks. We put poles onto the glad. When you turn them on it`s like watching a popcycle form on the stick,"said Dr.David Ellis, St. John`s Urology. A recent study says that one out of every six American men will develop prostate cancer at some time in their life. Reported By: Brad Douglas
