Child Abuse on the Rise

Updated: January 7, 2009
The Children`s Center in Joplin deals with an average of 60 abused children each month. But for the month of July officials saw 90 abused children. Now, the center is left dealing with an increased workload in addition to budget cuts. The center`s yearly budget has been cut 160-thousand dollars. Center Director Greg Dagnan says it`s a disturbing trend, one that he`s had to watch rise through the years. "Each month the numbers are getting higher and higher than when I started five years ago, we were seeing five kids a month. so I`ve seen the progression,"said Stephanie Theis,Children`s Center. Dagnan says August is also on pace to surpass the average number of child abuse cases. Reported By: Brad Douglas
