A four state police officer accused of driving under the influence has been reinstated to the force. Columbus, Kansas police Lieutenant 35-year old John Zappa was reinstated and then placed on administrative suspension until further recommendation by the city council. Zappa has been on military leave since January. Late last month Zappa was arrested in connection with a drunk driving accident in Galena. He has been charged with aggravated assault and battery, leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence of alcohol. Investigators say Zappa was driving north of Galena when he allegedly came close to striking three young girls in a car. He then allegedly sideswiped a horse carrying a rider sending that person and another rider to the hospital. A court hearing for Zappa is scheduled for later this week.
