A four state community decides a recall election isn`t in their future.
The recall election petition was aimed at Galena City Commissioners Marion Davies and Daryl Shoemaker after they allegedly violated open meeting laws. The Galena, Kansas recall committee seems to have based their decision on one main factor. Jim Clifford, one of the committe members says that while the committee still believes that open meetings violations did occur. They feel further efforts for a recall election will lead to more rifts in the community. City leaders say it`ll also help ease difficulties with the budget.
"Right off the bat we won`t have to spend un-necessary monies to go through a recall and I think this is the beginning of the healing process. Maybe we can get on with city business and not have to worry about all the personal issues,"said Lynn Hardman,Galena Mayor. Mayor Hardman says about 90 percent of their problems are personal issues and if they can get rid of those. They can handle the other ten percent.
