Courthouse on Ballot

Its official,residents in Ottawa County will decide the fate of two tax issues in November. The Ottawa County Commission today formally adopted a resolution placing the tax issues on the November ballot. Voters are being asked to approve a four tenths cent sales tax. The funds will go toward building a six point six million dollar courthouse. The tax will raise 600-thousand dollars annually,it would be in effect for 16 years. The current courthouse was built in 1916. And the second question will ask voters to approve a one tenth sales tax that would fund the nine Ottawa County rural fire departments. That tax will raise about 20 thousand dollars a year. The election is set for Tuesday November 18th. Reported By: Jim Jackson
