Cockfighting Bust

A four-state man is in jail tonight after authorities bust a local cockfighting operation.
The Missouri Humane Society and the McDonald County Sheriff`s Department this morning found various cockfighting paraphernailia and at least 100 game cocks on the suspect`s property in Goodman. Authorities say based on evidence, the operation has been running for at least ten years. Officials say the birds are being removed from the property.
"They are being taken into possession as evidence and then we`ll go in front of a judge. He`ll give us orders of what to do with the birds after that,"said Deputy David Cuckovic, McDonald County Sheriff`s Department.
Cockfighting is a class a misdemeanor in the state of Missouri. The penalty is one day to one year in a county jail and/or a one-thousand dollar fine per count. The suspect in this case is facing at least ten misdemeanor counts. Authorities say more arrests are expected in connection with this cockfighting facility.
