Lamar Levy

Updated: January 7, 2009
An area school district is asking residents to approve a tax levy increase. The Lamar Board of Education wants voters to approve a 47 cent increase in the district`s operating levy. If approved next February, the money would help replace funds lost as a result of state cutbacks in education. Administrators say the district could be forced to cuts jobs and reduce some programs in the wake of state cutbacks. The current tax levy is set at 3 dollars and 40 cents per 100 dollars of assessed valuation. If approved the levy would increase to three dollars and 87 cents. Reported By: Jim Jackson
