Jasper County Commissioners Reaction

The fate of a former four state Sheriff accused of mis-deeds while in office is decided. The Jasper County Commissioners met this morning to discuss the 600-page report concerning alleged wrong-doings by former Sheriff Bill Pierce. The report from the Missouri Highway Patrol accuses Pierce of various degrees of corruption while he was in office. According to Presiding Commissioner Chuck Surface, the report accuses Pierce of stealing a two-thousand dollar check from the drug task force and putting it in his personal bank account. But the Commissioners have decided that since the alleged crimes happened more than five years ago, the statute of limitations has run out to prosecute. A previous investigation by the Missouri Attorney General`s office several months ago also accused pierce of wrong-doings. Those mis-deeds included the alleged tampering with public records by Pierce, and allegations of wrongdoing involving the 2002 Route 66 Music Festival. It also accused him of a conflict of interest while running the jail commissary. Reported By: Brad Douglas
