breaking news
A new section of road in Southwest Missouri is quickly becoming a dangerous one. The newest portion of the proposed Joplin bypass, which spans from 7th street to Zora was opened in mid September. Since that time, Joplin police say there have been five accidents on the Northbound lane of Highway 249 at Zora. The latest of which happened this morning.
Police believe the driver fell asleep behind the wheel and went through the intersection. Fortunately he was not injured. Its the second wreck this week at that location. Sgt. Kevin Klink says its not a problem of visibility but rather motorists are either going to fast or not paying attention when they approach the site. He hopes to convince the Missouri Department of Transportation to install additional safety reminders.
