Police Chief Fired

A local community at the center of controversy for the past few months is the scene of another shake-up. Galena, Kansas Police Chief Cameron Arthur has been fired. Since this is a personnel issue, City Manager Jamie Bell is unable to comment on the specific reason for Arthur`s termination. But he does say issues that have been brought up in the past and seen in the media have nothing to do with today`s decision. Bell says he`s asked for Arthur`s resignation in the past, because it was clear to him the city was torn and much was due to police leadership. But today it`s a different story in Galena. According to Bell some of Arthur`s actions in the past three to four weeks have led to his dismissal. Because arthur believes he was fired with un-just cause. He says a lawsuit against the city may follow. While Arthur has leads on future jobs in law enforcement he says he`s in no hurry to leave the area he`s called home for the past four years. As for the Galena Police Department Sargent Debb Webb will serve as acting Police Chief until Bell is able to find a permanent repacement. Bell says as soon as the holiday weekend`s over he`ll be diligently searching both internally and externally for the new chief. The Galena City Commission has had problems with Arthur in the past did they have anything to do with his dismissal? This decision was made soley by the City Manager without input from the commission. Beyond that the City Commissioners say they have no comment on the issue. Reported By: Jennifer Grannan
