Courthouse security may soon be compromised in one area county, due to cuts to the Sheriff`s budget. A public hearing was held at the Jasper County Courthouse today. Sheriff Archie Dunn and 20 of his deputies were on hand to object to a 207-thousand dollar cut to the Sheriff`s budget.
Dunn says if he has to drastically cut his budget,he may start with the four deputies who are assigned courthouse security.
"The first step I think i`ll take is take away is court house security. If I do that I think I can live within the budget but we have four people assigned security in Carthage and Joplin. When I do away with those positions I can stay within the salaried budget,"said Dunn.
The Sheriff could pull security in the courthouse as soon as January first.
