breaking news
An accident at an area intersection claims the life of a young girl. And now the intersection is under public scrutiny. Last night 11-year-old Leiton Carr died after the vehicle she was traveling in turned into the path of an oncoming car. This isn`t the first time police have responded to an accident at the intersection of reinmiller and 32nd street. Officers with the Joplin Police Department say they respond to quite a few accidents at the intersection, but none have been this bad. Area residents say when pulling onto 32nd street it`s difficult to see which lane westbound traffic is in. And when turning onto reinmiller the Eastbound traffic is moving so fast cars are there before you realize it. Residents say they`re lucky accidents like last night`s don`t happen more often. Officers with Joplin Police Department say almost every accident that occurs at the intersection happen because of one of two reasons. Dropping the speed limit and putting up street lights are both things Sargent Klink says the state would have to do. But residents I spoke with say they want more. They`d like to see a stop light at the intersection so it`s easier to pull out.
