A Joplin mother accused with the death of her infant son is asking for a change of venue. Lawyers for 39-year old Linda Baldwin asked for the change in her upcoming trial. Baldwin has pleaded not guilty to charges of first degree murder of her 10 week old son Thomas Spina. Investigators say the baby died of heat exposure and dehydration after he was left lying on a floor furnance. Doctors say the baby had second and third degree burns from the furnance, and also from being immersed in a hot liquid. Baldwin told police the baby had rolled onto the furnance. If convicted of murder, Baldwin could be given the death penalty. A judge is taking the change of venue request under advisement.
